Community resource development
Community resource development assists community residents and organizations in their collective efforts to maintain or build better communities. It provides specialized information, research results and knowledge from different disciplines at the disposal of the community.
The goal is to apply knowledge in the solution of the problems that people face as they work to make their communities better places. The programs are based on the philosophy that people in the community have the right and an obligation to participate in making decisions about those matters of common concern that will affect their communities.
It involves a process whereby those in a community arrive at group decisions and take actions to improve their well being. Thus, the program is concerned not only with what is done in a community to solve problems, but also with how it is done.
4-H and youth
4-H youth is aimed at helping young people become creative and productive citizens, acquire a zest for life and lay a foundation for continuing education.
It offers youngsters between the ages of nine and 19 the opportunity to learn by doing in a wide variety of projects in which the youngsters learn specific skills and develop citizenship and leadership skills.
The project areas are grouped under animal, plant and soil sciences, creative and performing arts, leisure education and communications, economics, jobs and careers, environmental and natural resources, health and safety, home and family resources, leadership, citizenship education and community development and mechanical sciences and energy.
