National Extension Week is observed from Oct. 13-19, but Virginia Cooperative Extension Service follows its mandate to improve life for the citizens of the Commonwealth in many ways throughout the year. One of the methods is to offer special services on particular topics.
Many of these services are available through special facilities and equipment at Virginia Tech or those of other organizations. Information on any service is available through the local Extension office.

The agricultural engineering plan service provides plans of agricultural buildings, residential housing and other associated structures and facilities, with emphasis on effective, economical and safe structures.
The ration formulation programs aid in feeding recommendations for producers. Many ration recommendations are made at the Extension office in the county, but requests can be made directly to the department of animal science at Virginia Tech.
Farm record analyses provide a vehicle by which farm records are analyzed for efficiency and profit. The program not only provides measures of efficiency and profit but with increased use can provide detailed yearly aggregates of farms on a county, district and state basis, and within-the-areas aggregates by farm type, income level and other criteria.
The forage testing laboratory analyzes forages, grains, homemixed concentrate rations or complete rations and provides information on the nutrition in these foodstuffs.
The insect identification laboratory identifies insects and diagnoses specimens damaged by insects. Recommendations on control of insects also are provided.
