Factory plan debated
The Fauquier Planning Commission remains sharply divided over whether a lumber treatment plant should be permitted in the southern part of the county.
The plant, proposed by the Michigan based Universal Forest Products Inc., would use arsenic, copper and chromated copper to treat lumber primarily for the housing industry.
The planners delayed action on the request until their Oct. 31 meeting.
The planted $2 million plant would be on 12 acres at Routes 17 and 805 near Bealeton
Planner Thomas Thorpe (Cedar Run District) expressed strong opposition to the proposal, saying he believes the county shouln't invite industry that uses hazardous materials as a part of its product ion process.
