Runners will take off at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Caslteton Fire Hall. The winner should be back at the fire hall some 40 minutes later, based on the record of 41.58 held by PaulJ. Baultatis.
Pre-registration can be handled by mail. Runners can send a $6 registration fee ($5 for students) payable to the Castleton Fire Department to Philip C. Strange, Rt. 1, Box 109F, Castleton, Va., 22716.
Pre-registration must be postmarked no later than Oct. 19.
Registration, at $7 per runner, will be accepted until 10:30 a.m. the day of the race.
Runners will be asked to sign a claims waiver.
Also this year, for the first time, competition has been broadened to include a bike race.
“The majority of people don’t run — they don’t run in marathons, 10 kilometer races, fun races, even,” said Strange. “But almost everybody rides a bike.” The fire company hopes to attract even more entries to the fund-raiser.
Bikers will follow the same course as runners, taking off an hour earlier at 10 a.m.
Entry fees are the same as those for runners.
