In Sperryville, crafts, exhibits, an art show featuring local artists, gifts, autograph sessions with nationally-known authors James J. Kilpatrick and Eugene McCarthy (who make Rappahannock County their home), live music, barbecues and apple recipes highlight what organizers are calling an “old-fashioned fall celebration.”
In addition, the Bromfield Parish Churchwomen will again sponsor a three-house tour, tea party and dried flower sale at the Parish Hall of Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington.
On tour is the 240-year-old Greenwood Farm and the 140-yearold home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard McNear, the Rush River House, which once served as a ski lodge, located at the approach to Big Devil Stairs and Meadow Grove, a farm established in 1739 by a land grant from King George III.
The churchwomen will serve tea at Ben Venue and box lunches will also be available.
Block tickets are $5, single tickets $2 and are on sale at various locations throughout the county.
In Sperryville, the more than two-dozen business have come together to put on the Sperryville Apple Harvest Celebration.
In addition, the Sperryville Antique Market will conduct its third annual Craft Show, open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., ..erving cider and presenting live music.
Some 30 artisans are expected to be on hand to create a myriad of crafts: jewelry, quilting, pottery, stained glass and woodworking.
The Little Italian Bakery on the premises will offer a breakfast special both mornings from 9-11.
Local artists will be presenting their work at the “Artists of the Blue Ridge” exhibition to be held at Faith Mountain Saturday and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m.
Some of the artists planning to exhibit their work include Painter William Woodward of Fauquier County, master guilder Joel Hoyer of Warren County, collage-creator Pam Woods and Linda Taylor, a Sperryville resident who has exhibited her acrylic paintings of crystals in the Washington, D.C. area.
Also at Faith Mountain, authors Kilpatrick (The Foxes Union) and McCarthy (The View From Rappahannock) will autograph their work at sessions from 2-3 p.m. on both days.
Faith Mountain will hold an open house noon to 6 p.m. on both days.
Rappahannock Lions Club will be selling apple butter.
