After a two-hour review of seismic study data and a recommendation from a geohydrologist, the county’s Board of Supervisors approved a redesign of the county’s landfill, and directed engineer Leonard Joyce to send it to the state’s vision of Solid Waste Management for approval.
Mr. Joyce presented modified plans to the board, replacing the previously approved trenches with an area fill. In that type of landfill, used extensively in flat country, an area is graded and covered with the liner, and trash is piled on top. After packing and covering, more trash is piled on top, until the desired elevation is reached.
