Supervisor Hubert Gilkey conceded Mr. Johnson's point: “I would much rather see somebody shooting towards the mountain than back towards the highway.” But he contended that the ordinance is a necessary tool designed specifically for controlling road hunting. As to Mr. Johnson’s second concern, the board’s chairman maintained that neither the county game warden nor the sheriffs deputies are likely to give a ticket to those hunting on their own land.

If a fence row blocks sight of what’s behind it, then a hunter shouldn’t be shooting towards it anyway, added Supervisor Mike Massie. “If you don’t know what's behind what you’re shooting, then you shouldn’t shoot!”
