The town’s water supply and destribution system, he said, “is taken too lightly by some.” The town has been cited in the past by the Health Department for violations, he said, and its chlorination system will remain in violation until it is replaced by an entirely new unit.
He pointed out the town has received an $11,000 grant to fund the design of the new system, and has another $231,500 loan from the Farmers Home Administration approved and awaiting additional financing. “The director of FmHA has been out,” Mr. Morehouse said, “and he is impressed by the gravity of the situation.”
The town’s problem with septic tanks and drainfields, he said, is just becoming known, “but is growing in importance.” How to address failing septic fields, as well as the additional pressures of development necessitating more septic fields on the already overloaded soils in and around the town, he said, “is a monster task.”
