andoah National Park. It contains 186 campsites, 146 of which are tent or trailer sites.
Shenandoah National Park contains 709 total campsites, and those wishing to camp still will be able to find alternate sites either within the Park’s other developed campgrounds at Big Meadows, Lewis Mountain or Loft Mountain, or at the many privately owned camping areas near the Park. In addition, the U.S. Forest Service operates a number of campgrounds in the region. Also, a possibility for some, will be camping in the backcountry. Backcountry permits and regulations can be picked up at any entrance station.
Superintendent Wade said, “I expect this to be a temporary closure, affecting this season only. We believe the construction and restoration will be completed, and the funds available to offer normal visitor services in 1991.”
