They have formed boards as mandated by the State, hired a Town Attorney, obtained insurance for Council Members and liability insurance for the Town, installed new street signs, started installing new sidewalks, put out barrels of flowers and wooden benches, developed a source of income to support a more active government, purchased the Library building, obtained a perpetual easement from Avon Hall for the Fourth of July, assumed responsibility with the Washington Volunteer Fire Department for the Fourth of July celebration and substantially increased their support to the fire company.
Through the hiring of a full time Town employee, increased attention has been applied to manicuring the Town with the assistance of trustees and people serving community service sentences (these people work for no salary). I believe these are all achievements of which the Town can be proud.
With the next election just a few days away, I hope that you will consider just how productive this Council has been. There are, however, many more tasks to be accomplished. Please consider your votes very carefully.
To end this letter on a positive note, I would like to thank each of you for your support, criticism, opinions — and most of all for your friendship. I care so very much about you and our Town.
