There is no 20 percent deductible as with the regular medicare coverage.
Medicare payments are made directly to the Hospice program and are a flat, pre-determined amount based on a daily type of care.
Tina Hackney Weaver, executive director of Hospice of the Rapidan and board member of The Virginia Association for Hospices, states that, “We are very pleased to receive Hospice Medicare certification and anticipate a smooth transition. We are committed to providing the highest quality of care to all our patients, and their families. In order to provide this care, we will continue to look to our friends in the community for financial support for indigent patients.”
Since Hospice of the Rapidan began providing care more than six years ago, more than 200 area patients and more than 1,400 bereaved family members have been served. The number of requests for hospice care is continually increasing. Over one-half of 1989’s total patient caseload were served during the first quarter of 1990; at this rate, hospice anticipates a 200 percent increase
