Mr. Miller also questioned the amendment’s conflict with the goals of the Comprehensive Plan. “How in the world can you say that a 40-car parking lot will not affect a residential neighborhood?”
“It is the responsibility of town government,” planner Mark Bailey added, “to protect residential areas . . . There is no way to argue that property values will not be adversely affected. People should be protected by the zoning ordinance.”
The members of council offered no comment on the proposed amendment, and it was denied by a unanimous vote of the five members participating.
