Shenandoah National Park Superintendent Bill Wade announced recently that Mathews Arm Campground will not open for the 1990 visitor season. Superintendent Wade said that several factors contributed to the decision. “Funding limitations this year preclude us from providing full visitor services. Rather than spread the effects of the limitations over a number of activities, we decided to concentrate on one area. We focused on Mathews Arm because of the other contributing factors. We need to reduce the interference with the completion of a new registration station at the campground, and we need to do extensive tree work in the campground because of gypsy moth damage.
