and defering for two years a tax break that was to halt the imposition of sales tax on nonprescription drugs beginning this July.
Gov. Wilder pushed the drug tax break and threatened to veto House and Senate bills designed to defer the tax break. Gov. Wilder changed his mind on the veto threat late last week, telling the Assembly budget writers the deferment was fine if the more than $30 million generated was used for disparity.
The disparity plan is designed to boost the state payment for students at risk of dropping out of school. This was defined as students with mental disabilities, who take English as a second language or whose parents are on federal or state financial assistance.
The disparity plan does not hurt the wealthier counties but the bulk of the new disparity spending goes to poorer school districts. ; Vi V ,
