Washington, was presented the prestigious Industry Service
Award at the Virginia Beef Cattle Convention held February 10-12 at the Homestead resort. Updike was chosen for the honor in recognition of his service to the state’s beef industry. Born and raised on a livestock farm in Rappahannock, Updike participated in numerous 4-H livestock projects as a youngster. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Virginia Tech in 1964, he began work as an extension agent in Clarke County where he worked closely with livestock organizations for young people, conducted demonstrations and improved livestock shows.
The Rappahannock Athletic Association will hold its LAST day of registration for the summer baseball program for 13-15 year olds this Saturday, March 20, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at* the Rappahannock elementary school. All participants who have not previously registered must sign up at this time.
A country ham dinner, sponsored by the Sperryville Ladies Auxiliary, will be served Saturday, April 3, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Sperryville fire hall. Carry-out orders will be available from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased from any auxiliary member. Prices are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children under 12.
