the elementary school to be essentially unchanged next year, but he expects an increase of approximately 30 at the high school with a senior class of 55 graduating and an entering eighth grade of about 85.
The School Board also saw a video made by the staff showing kindergarten students working with their seventh-grade “reading pals” in kindergarten teacher Susan Bauer’s room. Mrs. Lauer said that two other kindergarten classes were paired with seventh-grade classes for reading activities once a week.
She said she started the program so the children would have one-onone reading experiences and because they were somewhat frightened by the size of the seventh-graders they saw in the cafeteria.
The board agreed to add two days to the spring vacation if they are not needed before then because of bad weather. The school calendar had five extra days scheduled. Two have been used for snow. With the new schedule, school will be closed for spring break from Thursday April 16th though Tuesday the 21st.
The board approved the special education plan with a revised evaluation form sugggeBted by the Special Education Advisory Committee.
The board approved an admissions policy that would deny admission to students suspended or expelled from other schools until they are eligible to re-enroll at their former school.
They learned that sixth grader Wesley Welk had won the regional DAR essay contest and that senior Chris Sutton had won the DAR Good Citizenship Award.
They appointed Martha Hall as a part-time special education teacher and Gary Settle as a volunteer assistant baseball coach.
