Surviving are his wife, Pauline Danner Mitchell; five sons, Clarence W. Mitchell of Rockville, Victor E. Mitchell of Winchester, Carl J. Mitchell and Kenneth A. Mitchell, both of Front Royal and Richard L. Mitchell of Caroline Beach, N.C.; four daughters, Betty L. Miller of Wardensville, W.Va., Katherine J. Brinklow and Ruth E. McDonald, both of Front Royal and Doris E. Mitchell of Carolina Beach; two stepsons, Homer Danner of Woodstock and Lee J. Danner of Winchester; two stepdaughters, Paula Rhodes of Bunker Hill, W.Va. and Doris Dodson of Sperryville; a brother, Jessie Mitchell of Christiansburg; six sisters, Mae Duncan, Reba Duncan, Ruby Harris and Treva Cromer, all of Christiansburg, Hattie Duncan of Montvale and Letha Smith of Salem; 12 grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons Robert Mitchell, Glenn Mitchell, Dale Mitchell, Dwayne Michael, Larry Michael and David Huffer.
Honorary pallbearers were Norman Herd, Winfred Henry, John Wahl, Sam Payne, Hesham Shafie and Allen Beatty.
A memorial service was conducted Monday, March 7 at the funeral home by the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 829.
