7. The four kindergarten and first-grade classes mean that an additional second grade teacher and classroom will need to be added each year.
8. Some tutoring and in-school suspension takes place in a room six feet by five feet.
9. Art and music share a room which is occupied by two desks, 30 chairs for music class, music equipment, art equipment and tables for art projects.
10. Third and fourth graders receive art instruction from a certified art teacher. The rest of the grades are taught by other school personnel, who have taken on this additional responsibility due to funding shortages for a full-time art instructor.
11. When music is being held in the music/art room, art must be held in the classrooms. With 40 minutes to set up, complete the work and clean up, only simple projects can be carried out. Paints and paper mache, for example, cannot be used, except when space is available on the stage.
12. The cafeteria now serves lunch from 11:15 a.m. to 1:40 p.m., after serving breakfast until 8:40 a.m. One hundred and eighty students are in the space at one time. Kindergarten students eat at 1 p.m. Despite having snack at 10:30 a.m., many of the kindergarteners complain of being hungry well before their time in the cafeteria. As with the library, increased enrollment taxes this public space, which is currently being used to its maximum.
