Congratulations to Wesley Welk, who competed in the Daughters of the American Revolution Essay Contest. The topic of the essay contest was “Famous American Women of the American Revolution. ”
Wesley picked Molly Corbin, and the title of his essay was “Margaret Corbin, a Woman and a Soldier."
Wesley’s essay tied for first place in the tri-county contest; the counties were Culpeper, Rappahannock and Madison. A tea was held Sunday, March 8 in Culpeper, given by the Culpeper chapter of the D.A.R., and Wesley received a metal and a certificate. The next step is the statewide competition. We wish him a lot of luck.
If you have a chance, stop by the front lobby at Rappahannock Elementary and look at the wonderful octopus’ garden made by the sixth grade art students taught by Lilo Wolfe.
They were working on unreal, underwater, sea worlds. First they listened to music called “The Octopus’s Garden,” then they made models with paper mache. What a great job.
