Breakfast at Washington
The Washington Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a buffet breakfast from 7 a.m.-11 a.m. on Saturday, March 21. The menu will consist of sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, biscuits, sausage gravy, pancakes, hash browns, baked apples, coffee, juice, hot chocolate, French toast and cereal. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Future buffet breakfast date is Saturday, April 18 which will include an Easter Egg hunt.
Free trout fishing party
Trout Unlimited’s 12th annual free trout fishing party for children will be held on opening day of the Virginia season starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 21 on the Rose River in Madison County along Route 670 between Criglersville and Syria.
Only boys and girls 12 and under may fish there that one day. No license is needed and there is no charge.
Adults may accompany but cannot fish. Bring your own tackle and bait.

Contestants sought
The Washington Volunteer Fire Department will be sponsoring Miss Independence, young ladies ages 13-18 and Little Miss 4th of July, young ladies ages 4-12. Participants should register before April 1 at which time all participants will receive their tickets. The young lady selling the most tickets will be crowned Miss Independence and will receive a $100 savings bond; second place will receive a $50 savings bond. The little young lady selling the most tickets will be crowned Little Miss 4th of July and will receive a $50 savings bond; second place will receive a $25 savings bond. This event is open to all county residents. The crowned participants earn the right to represent W.V.F.D. in parades and other functions. To sign up call Keith Jenkins at 676-3546 or 675-3616.
Fashion show planned
The Rappahannock Woman’s Club will present their annual fashion show at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 22 at the Rappahannock Elementary School. This year’s show “A Blue Ridge Springtime” will benefit the Rappahannock County Park and the Woman’s Club annual scholarship fund. Tickets may be purchased at the door or from any member.
