After averaging more than 20 points per game early in the year, opponents resorted to double- and triple-teaming him, but the points kept adding up. Gary Leake predicted that Williams, Clarke County’s Casey Childs and Brentsville’s Bobby Hogan will be the district’s premiere players next season.
With nine players returning, more than any other district team, the coach said the prospects for ’92’93 look good. Several team members are planning to attend an indepth team camp in North Carolina this summer, said Gary Leake. The school will sponsor the All-Net Basketball Camp again this June as well.
Baseball season
opens next week
The key word to describe the Rappahannock High baseball team, again this year, is youth. Last year the freshmen pitching team of J.C. Welch and Hunter Foster took the bulk of the work on the mound, and as sophomores this year the same is expected.
But Coach Mike Tupper said some other players have stepped forward and shown pitching ability, and this season a key ingredient to the pitching game may have been found: a number of possible lategame stoppers. t
