struction of a large industrial plant in this area was announced this week by H.S. Barksdale of the Rappahannock Industrial Development Association. According to Mr. Barksdale, the plant, when erected here, will eventually employ over 250 persons and would “bring an opportunity for better economic security and business improvement for the entire area.” In making the announcement, Mr. Barksdale said this company now operates five plants in Virginia and is a nationally recognized garment manufacturer. The decision to open the hew plant here, he stated, will depend in part on whether local residents will be willing to invest an amount which will cover a portion of the total plant

Students in Cheryl Alexander’s third-grade class at Rappahannock Elementary saw their labors bear fruit recently when a truck from the Ansell Pharamceutical Co. pulled up to the school and dropped off 50 large boxes filled with surgical gloves,
As part of a class project, the students had written to a variety of companies and businesses asking for medical supplies to help the new countries of the old Soviet U nion.
In addition to the shipment from Ansell, the students have also received support from The Plains Pharmacy.
The 50 boxes are being shipped via Baltic Lines through New York. They will be going across the Atlantic with a ship full of humanitarian aid from the United States.
