A paralegal and a legal secretary by trade, Ms. Platt decided to leave the law office and someone else’s employment behind for two reasons— to be more available for her young daughter, Erin, and the obvious need in Rappahannock County for such services.
“I’ve been running other people’s businesses since I was fresh out of high school,” she said, explaining the time was right in her life to start her own business.
Purchasing her own Macintosh and laser printer for her home office, she started the business while working at other part-time positions available.
“I saw a need in Rappahannock,” she said, adding while the need was great for many small businesses, the need was not great enough for a fulltime person at any one particular site.
By offering one-time, one-day service to many clients, Ms. Platt is available to Rappahannock clients with a one-time need as well as small businesses that require printing services on an irregular basis.
Mrs. Dodd, leaving the Northern Virginia commute behind to spend more time with her two children, worked as a legal assistant in Warrenton for some time before contacting Ms. Platt about working together.
“It’s not that we work less now,” Mrs. Dodd said of her work with Business Support Service, “but it ajlows us to be more flexible.”
