Recycling
center is open
The recycling drop-off center at the Washington Fire Hall is now open daily during daylight hours to all town and county recyclers.
The center accepts all the recyclables that have been picked up in the town curbside collection pro* gram and that are accepted at the recycling shed at the Amissville landfill: clear, green and brown glass; tin and aluminum; and plastics.
Newspapers, however, are not accepted at the Washington site. Town and county residents who recycle at the fire hall drop-off center are asked to take their newspapers to Amissville, although town residents can continue to have their newspapers picked up at curbside onr the third Saturday of each month, at a part of the monthly town trash collection program.
Newspapers picked up in town will be taken to the recycling trailer at the landfill and not dumped as trash.
Town residents without cars or other means to get their recyclables to the fire hall can call Ray Gooch at 676-3474 for a helping hand.
The drop-off center is a white “roll-off’ container with five marked bins for bottles and cans. It is now located at the rear of the Fire Hall garage at the edge of the graveled parking lot for easy, all-weather access.
