Leader training program
There will be a leader training program at the Rappahannock County Extension Office at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17. The topic is “Reminiscence: Helping People Realize That Their Lives Have Mattered.” The program is free and open to the public. Call 675-3619 for additional information.
Lecture scheduled
The Mothering Cooperative will sponsor a lecture at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 21. The title of the lecture is “Immunization: The Controversies,” and will be given by various health care professionals including Dr. Trice Gravatte. Child care is available. Book signing at library
The Rappahannock Library and Cabin Fever Books are co-sponsoring a slide presentation, questions and answers and a book signing by Chris Johns at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 21 at the library. The title of his book is “Valley of Life, Africa’s Great Rift.” The public is invited.
Dedication of church
The Catholic church of St. Peter on U.S. 211-522 across from the Child Care and Learning Center will be dedicated by the Most Reverend John R. Keating, Bishop of Arlington at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 22. A reception will follow the ceremony and the mass. There will be an open house in the Church Hall from 3 to 5 p.m. for all who would like to see the new facilities.
Lion's Club annual auction
The Rappahannock Lion’s Club will hold a benefit auction at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 9 at the Washington Volunteer Fire Department.
Donations of new, re-newed and saleable items are needed, cash donations always acceptable but food and clothing items are not. Gift certificates for meals and services appreciated and all donations are tax deductible.
Urgently needed are additional funds to aid in the increase of legitimate requests for sight and hearing assistance in the Rappahannock County community.

Visual learning workshop
The Polaroid Education Program is offering a two hour Visual Learning Workshop open to all homeschoolers, private school and public school teachers from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on March 25 at Rappahannock High School. Teachers learn how to operate a Polaroid 600 instant camera which is theirs to keep at the end of the workshop, techniques for improving the quality of visual images and ideas for using instant photography in the classroom. Participating teachers will be registered in a program to exchange film proof-of-purchase seals for additional cameras. The cost is $9 and participants are asked to bring one pack of Polaroid “600 Plus” film. Registration deadline is March 18. Call Laurie Marshall at 675-3267 to register or for further information.
Beauty pageant planned
The annual beauty pageant sponsored by the Sperryville Rescue Squad will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 4 at Rappahannock High School. Practice will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 2 and will include those between the ages of two and 21. Additional categories will include boys ages two to six and also a mother-daughter contest.
