Where were the voters?
A big thumbs up to the Amissville Area
Community Organization for a well-organized
candidates forum last Wednesday night. A big thumbs down to the community for the low turn-out.
Sure, it was raining and there was also the special Washington Town Council meeting. But how many people from Amissville went into Washington for that meeting? And while heavy rains may prompt some people to stay at home, the roads weren’t flooded - at least not until later on.
These are the people who are going to lead the Jackson District, the county and this district in the state legislature into the next century. There were 40 or so people in attendance, not including the candidates and event organizers. It should go without saying that there are more than 40 people in Amissville - much more.
Now some people may have not been able to attend due to some sort of emergency. But that does not justify only 40 people showing up to hear where your candidates for office stand on the issues. And while the Rappahannock News can give a rundown on what happened at the forum, reading the paper does not take the place of actually
