RAAC presents Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at The Theatre on Gay Street Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. Director Michael Hoffman has changed the setting of this adaptation of the Bard’s complicated romantic comedy from Greece to tum-of-the century Tuscany.
Hoffman remains true to Shakespeare’s language, and while the classic lines may sometimes sound incongruous in the Italian setting, the lush and sensual Tuscan landscapes are a warm backdrop for the mischievous Puck (Stanley Tucci), as he dashes around performing his errands of love.
The local duke, Theseus (David Strathairn), - will soon marry Hippolyta (Sophie Marceau), but first he must settle a local squabble involving the duke and four young people who love and are loved By all ' the wrong people.
