Great Success
The third annual Rappahannock RoughRide on Sept. 18 was a great success. Organizer Jean Lillard commented that the weather could not have been better. The oldest rider was 79 year old Fanning Baumgardner of Washington riding the 20 mile. Mr. Baumgardner won an afghan. Next was Alton Slay, 74, of Warrenton and he rode the 60 mile ride. The youngest participant was 23 month old Kaeley Stout of F'int Hill riding with her mother. Kaeley’s brother, Garrett, four and a half, rode the 12 mile ride. Prizes were donated from many businesses in the Rappahannock area. Winners were Ron Shectman of Warrenton for the $50 gift certificate from Faith Mountain; Katharina Junk, a foreign exchange student at RCHS, won the certificate from Rae’s Place. The $100 gift certificate from Bike’s USA was won by Emily Meadows of Boston and Christine Altemes from Tucson, Ariz. won the helmet and safety check. Marilyn Ginder of Amissville won dinner for two at The Inn and Karen Hamilton of Manassas won dinner for two at Four & Twenty in Flint Hill. Riders came from as far away as Tucson, Ariz., Pennsylvania and Raleigh, N.C. to participate. Plans are already underway for another RoughRide of spectacular scenery and challenging, scenic terrain next September.
