Schools/bail fields
The board approved an additional appropriation of $185,552.44 to the schools for the 1999-2000 school year. The money, to be used for various purposes, come mainly from state and federal funds.
McCarthy gave the board an update on the ball fields project. He hopes to have an electronic version of the plans this week, which could allow him to put out requests for bids next week. Once bids are in, the county will advertise for a public hearing. School Superintendent Dr. David Gangel informed the board that the baseball field can remain intact until the t end of the next school year.
RRCSB update
Brian Duncan, Executive Director of the RappahannockRapidan Community Services Board, gave an update to the board. Rappahannock Family Guidance is having to move from Clopton House. However, the lease has been extended until March, 2000 and Duncan expects the group to be in a new location by then. This will allow RRCSB to expand its services, but will also result in tighter controls over how the money is spent.
Other business
• The board set a public hearing for next month’s meeting on the issue of designating U.S. 522 from Chester Gap to the Culpeper County line as a Virginia Scenic Byway.
