Butter a one-quart casserole well. Set aside. In a glass measuring cup, combine sugar and water. Watching carefully, microwave on high power until sugar bubbles and turns a tan-caramel color (about five minutes). Immediately pour into buttered casserole, swirling to coat bottom evenly. In a large bowl whisk remaining ingredients together until well blended. Pour over sugar mixture. Cover lightly with foil. Place the dish in about two inches of hot water in a larger pan and bake at 350 degrees for about one hour or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Chill the dish, covered, overnight. Uncover, invert on a serving dish with a rim (caramel will be liquid), and serve.
