I somewhat support what the supervisors are doing in regard to the new ballfields etc. I would place it on a lower priority because of the amount of capital spending involved. I think there are more important issues to address, such as the need for more office space, and the upgrading and maintenance of existing facilities. I think Rappahannock has a good program. Considering the size of the school and number of students we have done well with the competition locally. The program may not be as big as some would like (football included), but the spirit of competition is instilled in the students.

Athletics are essential for a well rounded education, a sound mind in a sound body. Athletics provide opportunities for achievement and self esteem that may not always be available in the classroom. Athletics are an important part of elementary and secondary education and it needs more emphasis and funding. Again, communication and cooperation with the School Board, parents and students is necessary to determine which sports would be popular and effective. I would then investigate public and private funding options to develop our sports program.
