After spending 33 years in the military in Thailand, Kotea, Vietnam, Europe and the U.S., Colonel and Mrs. Nels Parson found their home in Rappahannock County where seasons are miraculous and the wildlife abounds. About 11 of their military years were spent living in Virginia, so this is where they started looking for property when retirement was on the horizon over 30 years ago. “After living in south Florida in my youth, I wanted to go where the seasons changed,” said Col. Parson.
They bought this property in 1965, even though Col. Parson remained in active duty until 1974. With only apple orchards on the sight and no road, they began by creating a mile-long driveway to the top of the hill.
They soon built a retirement home
