Many people in attendance spoke in favor of such a designation.
The designation would apply to U.S. 522 all the way to the town of Culpeper. However, the supervisors would only address the stretch of 522 that runs through Rappahannock County.
• The board awarded contracts for installation of an office telephone system to connect the courthouse complex to the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office and the county offices in Peter Kramer’s building. Broadway Electric was awarded the contract for premise cabling, and Sprint was awarded the contract for system hardware.
• The board instructed McCarthy to prepare a contract for architectural services with Dwight Matthews to work on the county office space issue.
• Halle Morgan and Peter Little were appointed to fill seats on the Library Board being vacated by Franklin Warner and Celine Siira. Their respective terms end Dec. 31, and neither can be reappointed. An appointment to replace Richard Smith, who has resigned from the county Water and Sewer Authority, has been tabled until next month. 1
• The issue of 911 service came up during public comment. Ms. Vivian Yancey said that the service is not available in Amissville, and that the Amissville area is being discriminated against.
McCarthy replied that most ,911 calls coming from Amissville ;$re going to the Rappahannock dispatch. He added that if any calls from Amissville go elsewhere, the county needs to know about it. McCarthy also noted that BellAtlantic has not been quick to correct any errors in the system.
