Vocational education is crucial to the education system. To ignore this is to ignore the needs of a significant part of our school population. I would like to encourage and enable a broad based vocational program that would encompass many of the trades that are necessary to solve the real problems of our society.

I was saddened when the Rappahannock School Board voted to pull out of the Carver/Piedmont Vocational/Technical Program without plans for their own version of a vo-tech program. To replicate the Carver/Piedmont type program is cost prohibitive at this time, but I am committed to working with the school board and our state and federal representatives to come up with equipment and funding for a vo-tech program in this county,

I am a graduate of George Washington Carver so this subject hits home to me. As a school board member I have always supported the vo-tech .curriculum. Therefore, I will do my best to see that Rappahannock County will have their own vocational classes in-house. This type of schooling also benefits those who are college bound and graduates with career training can go more easily into the world of work. If I am elected supervisor, I look forward to seeing that this dream comes true.

I believe in a strong vocational education program. Every individual has his own special gifts and calling. Not all students will go to college. Many will be employed in trades. All students need to find their own special gifting, and public education should be there to help. One approach that should be explored is apprenticeship programs. There are a number of gifted craftsmen in our community who have valuable knowledge that they could impart to students seeking vocational training.
