While Atkins supports volunteer fire and rescue, he added “We cannot support all volunteer organizations.” Frazier pointed out that he supported a fire levy based on fair market value. He does not believe the county Volunteer Coordinator should be paid, adding that the money could go elsewhere in the schools.
As far as development, Brown wants to confine development to the villages but added that we need the tax base and that development will help. Atkins supports enough growth to keep young people here, but doesn’t support clustering. Frazier said that the zoning ordinances allow for orderly development of the villages, and that he is working with the Planning Commission to help define the village areas.
Is Amissville a village, and if so in what sense? All three agreed that Amissville should have defined boundaries.
Should the county hire a Recreation Director to oversee youth activities? Frazier and Atkins say no, that it should be a volunteer position. Brown supports such a position, however, saying it would be a good way to keep people informed of what’s eroine on.
