spoke on improvements in the school system and issues affecting the schools. He said that the School Board has become more proactive, and that there is more community involvement in the schools. “Your School Board has worked very hard in the last four years,” said Makela.
One question from the audience was about ways to trim “fat” from the school budget. Makela replied that he has looked for “fat”, and can’t find any. He added that the School Board spends wisely.
Makela is not ready to commit to a position on the issue of a middle school. He did say that a study is in place to project the school population over the next 15 years.
