First, Rappahannock County should build on its current economic base, e.g., value-added agricultural products and tourism.
There is no need to get into the high-tech arena. Second, the county should keep rural open space by fostering community development, local businesses, and jobs within the villages. People are driving too far to jobs; they have no time for community affairs at the end of the day.
Third, don’t scatter county services and recreation all over the countryside; keep them within the villages.
Fourth, improve the quality of life within villages: create small parks, build sidewalks and bike paths.
Peggy and Joe Maio were quite specific on how to stop sprawl. The key was land use. The Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission need to more specifically define parts of the Rappahannock County Comprehensive Plan. The more detail included on how we want the county to
