According to the county census report of Saturday, submitted this week by Crew Leader Charles B. Wood of Flint Hill, about one-half of the census enumerations for the county has been completed. There is a total to date of 3,584 people enumerated, 981 dwellings and 392 farms. In response to requests from teachers, the school board in a meeting last night in the courthouse in Washington agreed to the changed teacher salary schedule as set up by the state salary fund. This new salary schedule places certificates and years of experience (up to six years) at $1800 and $2000. John R. DeBergh was the purchaser of the tract of lajpd-kfiown as the W.G. Wood “Harris HfllleW'Place” which was sold at auction on April 15. This land contains 161 acres and adjoins the farm of Mrs. Elizabeth DeBergh and is located about five miles northwest of Washington. Sam Miller, the great-great-great-grandfather of Mr. DeBergh was one of the previous owners of this tract of land. A large fire was being fought all afternoon in the Ben Venue neighborhood. A 40-mile hour wind was whipping the flames but toward night it was beginning to look like to firefighters would win. The ladies of the auxiliary to the fire company at Washington got to work about supper time last evening and sent 200 sandwiches and seven gallons of coffee to the men who had been fighting fire all afternoon in the Ben Venue neighborhood.
