Mr. Risse felt that it was currently acceptable, but that a more detailed Comprehensive Plan was needed, and the purchase of development rights might be looked into. Parcel Consolidation might lead to 50-100 acre minimum lot sizes.
Nels Parson of Washington, Va., made a good case for the use of conservation easements as a way to preserve Rappahannock County from sprawl. He said it works and urged people to look into it. The speakers concurred.
John Kiser of Slate Mills voiced the opinion that “nogrowth” was a viable option. The speakers felt that was not possible as there was 1% growth in the county now, and that Rappahannock County was becoming better known.
