for high school educators in early April. The theme of this year’s program was “A Celebration of Culture.”
Approximately fifty educators from the greater Washington area heard speakers on Latin American filrft, teaching resources available at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, and “Aztec Manuscripts and Other Painted Books of Ancient Mexico”.
After a brief history of the Tango, the group was entertained by the Tango Troupe of Washington, D.C. The symposium was co-founded by Mr. Michael Vargo and Mr. Marcos Poole eight years ago to provide resources and current information on curriculum fpr teaching students about Latin America.
• Jesse Ferreira, a seventh grade student at Wakefield Country Day School, has been invited to attend an awafd ceremony at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, by the Johns Hopkins Center fpr Talented Youth. Mr. Ferreira is being honored for achieving a score which was higher than those of the average college bound senior on both the verbal and math portions of tjie SAT I in November 1999.
The Center for Talented Youth encourages seventh and eighth grade students with high standardized test scores to take the SAT I in order to qualify for programs offered at universities throughout the United States and abroad. SAT I scores are typically used by colleges and universities to help determine eligibility for admission.
