We also have vigilant groups such as RLEP and PE(J to help keep us aware of lurking dangers that approach our county borders. Those of us focused on raising a family fir other adventures are grateful for their efforts. Placing land in a conservation easement Is a wonderful and generous way to protect much of Rappahannock.
Even our realtors have a chance not to “sell” Rappahannock. I remember a new neighbor of a friend commenting, “You live out here all the time? Can’t you wait till they develop this and you get some company?” Let the buyer beware, as they say.
Our community meetings with our supervisors are a well spring of well intentioned communication. The willingness of so many to be involved in the forming of our county and its schools, as it ventures into the 21st century is going to be the key that keeps our leaders aware of our voice. The quality we feel when we enter Rappahannock has the human family at its core. There is a strong root of independence here and it is balanced with the daily acknowledgment of the joy found in a small community. We are the caretakers of this county now.
To paraphrase a quote I came upon recently, “when much is given, much is expected”. We have a responsibility to deeply feel what has been handed down through many families, and through many hands. Paying close attentidn to what we have been given; the vision of our future and the wisdom to bring it forth will grow. Our children deserve to share their love of this county with their children, without disappointment.
