Pantry program in county
A Super Pantry Program sponsored through a partnership between Rappahannock Cooperative Extension and Blue Ridge Food Bank Network will be conducted at the Hope Hill Baptist Church in Castleton. The program will begin on April 26 and continue through May 31. The sessions will be conducted on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Participants will receive nutrition education, tips on stretching the food dollar, hands on cooking skills, lunch, and a bag of groceries each week. Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks such as transporting the groceries, teaching cooking skills and child care. For more information, contact the Rappahannock Extension Office at 675-3619.
Lions Club preparing for auction
The Rappahannock County Lions are preparing for their annual auction. This year the event will be held on Saturday, May 13 at 6 p.m. at the Washington Fire Hall.

Erosion, Sediment course offered
Virginia's Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is offering an Erosion and Sediment Control in Virginia course. This course was developed through the collaborative efforts of OCR’s Division of Soil and Water Conservation and the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The one-day course will cover the state minimum standards, related engineering specifications and conservation practices on construction sites. Participants who complete the course and pass the examination at the end of the training will receive a certificate of completion. There is a $50 non-refundable registration fee, which includes a manual. There are six locations and dates to choose from Richmond, May 9; Fredericksburg, May 16; Charlottesville, May 25; Lynchburg, June 1; Williamsburg, June 15 and Manassas, July 12. Enrollment is limited and participants are selected on a first-come, first served basis. For more information and/or questions call 804-371-7533.
Benefit breakfast planned
A benefit breakfast for Lauren Payne will be held on Saturday, May 13 from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Rappahannock County Elementary School. There will also be a silent auction.
