The children found a special kinship with Donna Lapre who works with Nature in a way that invoked more enthusiasm in the children to explore a six week art class with her that revolved around their common interest.
From there, characters began emerging and the girls decided they wanted to continue meeting to create a play. They called their weekly group meeting “The Woodland Fairies”. They took pleasure in creating each scene, line by line, while home schooling mother Carol Lucking assisted them by typing the script on the computer.
Rosalie Lysaght joined in to co-direct the production this winter, as it came time to begin rehearsals.
The writers of the play cast themselves in the roles of the fairies and opened up the other parts to other Rappahannock home schoolers to join in the fun. Isabell Eastham is delightful as Dressy Daffodil while her brother chose the part of the growling bear along with Patrick Lysaght.
Harper and Lucy Van Ness hop on stage looking for some fresh green grass to nibble while Mama rabbit, played by Brenda Van Ness, has a run in with Bossy Bluebell. Mother Nature is played by Rachel Harrison. Her sister, Jenny, narrates and plays the gnome.
Technical volunteers were of great assistance creating the lighting and simple scenery, enhancing even further the dramatic effects of a real stage performance. Home schooling mother Mary Wagoner created the lighting
