I think the reason that partisanship is so strong is that “money” controls most state-wide and federal elections. As long as the politicians are controlled by special interest groups that pay to get people elected, partisanship will continue to plague our political system.
Republicans are not likely to enact any type of campaign finance reform unless Democrats agree to curb funding by labor unions. There needs to be give and take here for the benefit of all Americans. The politicians are not likely to do anything unless we the citizens put pressure on them to do something.
I hope Democrats will begin to put pressure on their side the way Senator McCain has put pressure on Republicans so that a truly bipartisan solution can be achieved.
