House District, along with most of Fauquier and part of Warren counties.
Now at 72,819 residents, the 31st District is only 2,034 persons, or 2.9 percent, over the “prefect number” for a House district.
But it is likely that the present arrangement will be changed, due to the high growth in Northern Virginia, and the “ripple effect” of other changes in state population.
The Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors recently contacted the state officials working on redistricting, asserting that the current alliance with Fauquier be maintained, if at all possible.
Reasons cited include the fact that the counties share the same planning district, judicial district, Virginia State Police district and other interests.
Updates on redistricting as the process moves ahead can be found on the Internet at the Virginia Redistricting Web site, found at http://dlsgis. state.va.us/.

A regional Redistricting Public Hearing by state officials will be held Saturday, March 31, at the Northern Virginia Community College, Annandale Campus, located at 8333 Little River Turnpike in Annandale. The meeting will be held in the Forum Room, and begins at 10 a.m.
