The 2001 Middleburg ; Horticultural Symposium, f “Crazy for Color,” took place * March 1 at the, Middleburg Community Center. The symposium only occurs once every two years so, if you missed it, get on the mailing list for the next one, because it was a real treat. *
The first talk was by Sydney Eddison titled “Color for Gardeners: Learning to Look.” She gave us buckets of information presented in the most pleasing, down-to-earth style with quite a bit of humor thrown in.
Her early book, “The SelfTaught Gardener,” is a wealth of practical knowledge written in the same style.
Eddison had a background in teaching, painting, theater and stage design before entering garden design as a profession. The strong connection between painting a set and designing a garden didn’t occur to her until recently. When it did, it led to her writing a new book on color.
