Learn how to plant a tree
Anyone interested in obtaining seedlings and learning how to plant trees may join John Kirchner and Hunt Harris on Saturday, March 31 at John’s house off of Route 522 between Woodville and Sperryville. John has ordered a variety of trees which will arrive on the 30th and be ready for pick up and planting on the 31st. There will be a 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. demonstration session of basic tree planting methods, after which participants may work on site specific plantings of their choice (including their own property).
A Bonfire Cookout will take place at 4 p.m.
Participants should bring layered clothing, gloves, sturdy footgear, a post-hole digger or shovel, and food for themselves for optional lunch (noon to 1 p.m. at John’s), and food to share for supper if they plan to join the Pot Luck Cookout at 4 p.m. (also at John’s). Call John, 987-9154 for specifics on types and numbers of trees available and directions to his place, and Hunt, 987-3366 for additional information, confirmation, and planting location recommendations.
Childcare training planned
Puppets Alive! is only one of the many Spring 2001 childcare provider/educator trainings sponsored by Virginia Cooperative Extension and the Child Care Quality Initiative. The workshop promises to be a fun and exciting day. Emmy award-winning puppeteer, Ingrid Crepeau will demonstrate how to animate anything . Providers/educators will learn how to transform slinkies, old sweaters, cardboard cylinders and other ordinary, accessible materials into engaging and easy-to-animate puppets in the workshop.
The puppet training is being offered Saturday, March 24 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Virginia Cooperative ExtensionMadison, located in the War Memorial Building on Main Street, Route 29 Business. For further information call 727-3435.

The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department is currently seeking queen contestants for their annual carnival to be held June 1316. Interested girts should call Charlotte Tummeyer at 635-8278.
Flint Hill sets carnival dates
The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company's annual fireman's carnival has a new date and also new rides for this year. The dates are June 13-16 and Virginia Premier Events will provide the rides. Anyone interested in helping with the carnival may call the firehouse at 675-3286.
Beauty pageant planned
Miss Shenandoah Valley Beauty Pageant will be held March 24 in Luray. The pageant is to benefit the Stariite Majorette and Drum Corps sponsored by the Luray Moose Lodge. For information or an entry form, call Sandy Bridges at 743-3854.
Career Fair planned
The Culpeper County Chamber of Commerce and f^Hpeper County High School (CCHS) invites Rappahannock residents to participate in a Career Fair on Wednesday, March 28.
The Career Fair will take place in the CCHS gymnasium from 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. for students, ninth through twelfth grades, and from 5 to 7:30 p.m. for the general public. If you have any questions or need more information cal the Chantoer of Commerce at 825-8628.
