The “One/OfT print making group’s show of 24 pictures at the Middle Street Gallery for March includes works by 21 artists whose products display the great variety of styles and techniques that can be gathered under the rubric “print."
Among the group, abstract designs or nearly abstract ones constitute about half of the images shown. Many of them are colorful. One of the largest is an untitled monotype by Janet Dover, a triptych horizontally arranged. The predominant color is a coppery orange with designs of lavender, green, purple, blue, yellow and pink. A first look is reminiscent of Odilon Redon. While this is a pleasant picture, it suggested nothing to me beyond a puzzle of color combinations.
An assertive, challenging picture is Philip Wetton’s “Clovia.” The title suggests a woman’s name, but may have a meaning unknown to me.
