More than 250 of the state’s most outstanding houses, gardens and historic landmarks will be open on three dozen tours throughout the commonwealth from April 21-28.

Virtually every period of American history will be represented, from-the early 1600s to the early 21st century. Links to notable families include those of • each of Virginia’s eight presidents of the United States (four of the first five were bom in the Old Dominion), as well as the Lees, .the Carters and other well-known Southern names.

Among todays Garden Week home owners are artists, interior designers, master gardeners, Internet entrepreneurs, raisers of prize-winning horse and cattle, and some of the state’s most prominent residents.
