methods adopted by the six schools in Virginia’s Bull Run District. He refers to this method as an “unknown,” for his team.

While the district had formerly used a standard side out method of scoring games, it moved this year to Rally Scoring, in response to similar changes recently made at the collegiate level. This scoring method is different in that each time the ball is touched a point will be made.

Weir said this could cause problems if serving is weak, as the opponent now has easy access to points which could be served into the net or fall short. To alleviate this problem, six of the team’s nine players attended volleyball camp over the summer.

By the end of the session, he said they had attained a 90 percent serve rate. “It’s got to be that good or else you’re giving both the ball and the point away,” he said.
